Message from the Associate Grand Chaplain, I. Jack A. Holloway – Week 51

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Companions,
In my reading this week I came across a poem, a part of which reminded me of how our Masonic fraternity fits into everyday life.

…to see good put in action is what everybody needs. I soon can learn to do it if you’ll let me see it done; – I can watch your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run. And the lecture you deliver may be very wise and true, But I’d rather get my lesson by observing what you do; For I might misunderstand you and the high advice you give, But there’s no misunderstanding how you act and how you live. Edgar Guest

We know that we have lectures that are very wise and true, but to make them foundational to our actions takes more than just to hear them every now and then. To attend degrees, read, study and memorize will imbue them in our minds. Our members, families, and acquaintances in non-Masonic circles are watching how we act and how we live. The good thing is companions, that we are equipped for every good work because our wise and true lectures are based on the Great Light opened at every meeting.

O Lord, make your word our rule, your Spirit our teacher, and your glory our supreme concern. Amen.
